Born in Sidikalang, North Sumatra, on August 31, 1957, Edward Hutabarat embarked on a remarkable career in the fashion industry in 1980. 
Throughout his illustrious journey, he passionately showcased Indonesia's rich heritage through textiles, traditional crafts, and fashion. 

In the mid-1980s, he partnered with the North Sumatra local government to promote the intricate art of Ulos weaving, captivating audiences in Jakarta, the Netherlands, London, and France.
In 1992, he ventured into Songket and Batik from Jambi, collaborating with the local government to revive these traditional crafts in Jambi, Jakarta, and London.
Between 1995 and 2018, Edward's explorations took him across Indonesia, where he diligently documented the nation's cultural treasures, spanning textiles, jewelry, artifacts, and architecture.

In 1996, he promoted Indonesia's iconic "Kebaya" attire, embodying the nation's cultural identity.
Notably, in 2004, he was honored with the Cultural Satya Lencana Award for rejuvenating the "Kebaya" as a cherished national dress. 

Edward's dedication extended to Sumba Weaving, Batik innovation, and the promotion of indigenous fabrics, marking his commitment to preserving Indonesia's cultural legacy.
As a fashion visionary, he introduced "Part One Edward Hutabarat" ready-to-wear clothing, reigniting Batik's allure as a modern fashion choice. 

Edward's creative pursuits expanded to photography in 2010, capturing the essence of Indonesian culture. 
He continued to shine in the fashion world, organizing exhibitions, solo fashion shows, and collaborations with global leaders.

In 2021, amid the pandemic, Edward pioneered the use of scrap Batik fabric for hygienic masks, blending tradition with modern necessity. 
His influence extended to virtual fashion showcases, like "Edward Hutabarat Spring Summer 2021," and tourism promotion with the Orchid Forest Tourist Park. 

Entrusted by the East Java Provincial Government, Edward elevated Batik from 38 provinces and cities under the theme "Chanting Jati Wetan" in 2022. 
He remains a tireless advocate, with the "Edward Hutabarat Cruise 2023" fashion show promoting "Sarinah" and Indonesian culture.
